Is your weight problem you?

I write this piece from a place of love and compassion for those who are struggling with their weight. Over the years, I have coached many people that all have the same thing in common. They can’t shift the bloody weight or as I tell them the fat! Everyone’s story of how they put the weight on is different but their fate is the same. The weight is on now and now is the time to get to work and undo all the damage you caused. Yes, you read correctly, the damage YOU caused.

Our moment of realisation usually comes from a photo or a comment. We get that sinking feeling in the pits of our stomach followed by, OH SHIT how did this happen, what the hell do I do to get rid? The truth is, it’s not as easy as that. You don’t just go to bed at night and wake up the next day 30lbs over weight. It happens very gradually, nice and slow while your seemingly unaware. But hey, when we realise we want it gone tomorrow.

So, what do we do, even better who do we blame? This is where you’ve got to be as subtle as a sledge hammer flying through the air. Now to some this may be a little bit patronising. KNOWBODY PUT A GUN TO OUR HEADS and forced us to over eat and be under nourished. We did it to ourselves. Yet this is what we do. We blame anything and everybody but the reflection in the mirror. Then comes the mission for nutrition. We search high and low, we wonder to ourselves, hmmmmm what’s everyone else doing? Oh, I know what, I’ll go to one of those classes that tells me I can eat as much shite as I want, which you know yourself deep down is wrong. Then I’ll walk away no more educated than when I walked in with a little recipe card and a picture of snack size maltesers at the bottom, wooohoo I can eat more junk. Just like that, CRASH BANG WHOLLOP welcome back to square one. Like a hamster on a wheel.

Now before you think I am being an obnoxious keyboard warrior with zero feelings towards this obesity epidemic and I mean epidemic that’s gripping our country and the world, your wrong. I too have battled with my weight for years. The truth is everyone’s battle is different but all our goals are the same, to feel good about oneself again. To walk proud, with a grin bigger than the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland.

How does it work for so many? The truth is, it doesn’t, approximately 2 out of every 10 people escape the trap because in their mind they’re ready. You have to be mentally ready for the journey ahead. There is no quick fix here folks, its hard-fucking work but the rewards far outweigh the work. There’s an old saying you get out what you put in. I let all of our clients know from day one, if you want a quick fix this isn’t it and quick fixes don’t exist. A quick fix is more like a bubble gum botch job. It looks the part but will eventually fall to pieces. If you’re in you have to be all in. If you want to change your life and have sustainable life lasting results, you have to change your mindset. The work starts with YOU.

Rome wasn’t built in a day folks. The internet is awash with wonderful tools and guides to clean eating, breaking the sugar trap, drop a dress or jean size, etc. I think there are more PTs than treadmills. All amazing and for the most of them they work and get results. The problem is, we say, “oh that didn’t work”, “that doesn’t work”, “it doesn’t work for me because…….”. It doesn’t work for you because you didn’t commit 110%.  Here’s the news, it does work when you work it and work on you. Try this quote, I AM THE ONLY PROBLEM I WILL EVER HAVE AND I AM THE SOLUTION! You are the solution to all your weight issues not the neighbour or your friends or your loved ones. It is you and only you. When you realise this it’s so rewarding. When you start to do this, and trust me you will, you can look at you and know, “Hey I did this”.

There are 1440 minutes in a day and what you do with them can be plenty. Spend them wisely, spend some on you. You deserve this, this is your life. Live the life you want and deserve by making the right choices. We know which ones are the wrong ones so just choose the latter.
